The Texas Armadillo! It is our very own purple and gold Mascot for the San Saba Independent School District. The armadillo became the official State of Texas mascot in 1981 and is our states official small mammal as well.
The Texas Star! The Texas Flag became the official flag of the State of Texas in 1839 (by the Republic of Texas) and again in 1933. Its big prominent White Star gives it the commonly used name: Lone Star Flag.
The Cowboy Boot! Texas ranchers after the civil war were driving their cattle to northern and western markets. They needed a shoe built tough to hold up for the long journeys. They added to their shoes, a pointed toe and a heel to make it easy to get in and out of the saddle stirrups. This design was designated in 2007 as Texas official footwear. The cowboy hat was also recognized as a state symbol in 2015.
