The Bagley family tradition is at the heart of the pecan history which continues to thrive today in many branches of the pecan industry. San Saba, Texas, is the birthplace of the “paper shell” pecan. Here in the 1880s, in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, Mr. Risien bred our native pecans producing a very desirable nut. His pecans and trees had been shipped to every continent on earth, making San Saba, Texas the “Pecan Capital of the World!” Our founder, RB BAGLEY, was key to that claim. He finished only the third grade, left home at 19 and began his lifelong career in the pecan industry in 1918. He thrashed pecans, sharecropped, and worked very hard to support his wife Ola and sons ML and Dean. Industrious RB saw promise in pecans. From thrashing them to growing, to buying and shipping pecans, by the late 1950s, RB Bagley & Sons Inc. had become the largest pecan buyer in the United States. We, the descendants of RB Bagley, are proud to continue his family business traditions, and we celebrate RB Bagley and 102 years in the Texas pecan industry in 2020!
